Tips For an Eco-Friendly Wedding

You’re engaged (YAY!) and it’s time to start planning your dream day. From stunning florals and decor, your fav venue, a delicious menu, your perfect dress (obvi) and all the little details; there are so many aspects to plan. It’s super easy to get wrapped up in the planning process without considering the impact your incredible celebration could have on the environment. Don’t worry babe, here are a few ways to make your dream day more eco-friendly.

1. E-vites

As we move to a more modern world e-vites are becoming more and more popular, and for good reason! They are easy to design (and still stunning!) without wasting paper and also saving on emissions from transportation. You can link your e-vite to your wedding website, offer immediate RSVP options and provide an open line of communication between you and all your invited guests. Easy and eco friendly!

Not loving the e-vite idea? That’s alright babe, look into using recycled or seed paper invites! Seed paper is a biological material that sprouts into flowers when it’s planted. How cool is that?

2. Reusable Florals

A fun alternative to fresh cut flowers for your centrepieces and decor is potted flowers! Consider orchids or spray roses, they can be just as stunning as a single use floral arrangement and can be used / planted at home afterward or be given as party favours.

Still after the fresh cut look? Opt for locally grown, seasonal blooms! Then donate them to a retirement home, hospital or anyone who might enjoy your beautiful flowers the day after the celebration!

3. Opt for Sustainable Meal Options

A big way to make your special day more eco-friendly is considering what you put on the menu. Look for caterers who focus on local, sustainable, and seasonal cuisine. Ask about the farmers that they work with and how they source their proteins, including beef and seafood. If it is suitable consider having a higher ratio of plant based food on the menu to minimize your environmental impact.

4. Rent your Decor!

Renting your decor is an easy way to reduce waste! This includes your stemware, cutlery, napkins, linens and more. Not only will the items look more stylish and classy than their plastic / paper counterparts, but the amount of waste significantly reduces! This goes for signage and any other decor you’re after to create your wedding vision as well. Unless you plan to use any of your decor after your big day, consider renting it or at the very least donating it to another bride afterward!
