Q: When should I start looking?

A: In order to ensure you’re not rushed with your decision-making, we recommend that you begin dress shopping 9-10 months before your wedding and ordering your dress approximately 7-9 months in advance of the big day! It can take 4-6 months for your made-to-order gown to arrive and several weeks in alterations to make it fit like a glove! While some designers can meet a tight deadline, giving yourself more time will save you from undue stress and from any rush fees!

Q: Do I need an appointment to try dresses on?

A: Yes! The Modern Bride is an appointment only boutique, please feel free to pop over to our scheduling page to book your appointment right now! You will have the entire boutique to yourself, and a personal consultant for a relaxing shopping experience!

Q: Do I need to pay for my Bridal Appointment?

All consultation appointments at The Modern Bride are complimentary; however due to an increased number of brides on TMB Wait List for appointments, The Modern Bride has introduced a $100 +HST No Show Fee to ensure we continue to help our brides find their dream dress! Your card will not be charged unless you do not show up to your appointment at the scheduled time.

Q: What can I expect at my appointment?

A: All of our appointments include our undivided attention with a one-on-one consultant in a private fitting room! Initial appointments are a full hour and a half – sometimes you need that extra to try on the favourites again! We will learn all about the specific details of your wedding. You and your party will browse our selection of over 200 gowns all hand picked to suit the trendy nature of our modern bride! We will start with 5-7 wedding dresses and offer our expertise and recommendations if we feel you have missed something that might be perfect! If you fall in love (again!) then we will take your measurements and decide on the best size together via the designer size chart. Then of course, we celebrate!

Q: What should I bring to my appointment?

A: Aside from your shining self?? Nude, strapless and seamless are your new best friends! We invite you to bring any undergarments, shapewear etc. or shoes that you are considering. Not required though! We also ask that you wear light make-up to keep our gowns free of stains and smudges.

Q: How many people should I bring?

A: Less is more! You have probably heard this again and again but it’s true. A smaller party of 2-4 trusted loved ones who will help you find a gown that is so you! Keeping it intimate will help you focus on that style and feeling, too many opinions may end up overwhelming the bride and can be confusing. If your nearest and dearest comes to more than 5 people give us a heads up so we can do our best to comfortably accommodate everyone!

Q: Price range?

A: Our gowns range from $1500 to top out at $8400. The majority of our gowns range between $1800-2800.

Q: What sizes are your samples?

A: Sample sizes vary by designers but we carry a range from bridal size 4-14 with the majority being 8-12. If your sizing is outside that range, not to worry, we have creative ways of making sure you can experience the look of your desired dress! Our gowns are made to order so depending on the designer we can order from a size 0-26.

Q: What is the process of purchasing a gown?

A: Yeah! You said yes!! After we have taken your measurements and decided on the size we will take a 60% deposit and order your gown! It will likely take 4-6 months to arrive so in the mean time you can hunt for the perfect pair of shoes to complete you look, unless of course you are rocking the barefoot look…which we LOVE.

Q: Cancellation/Return Policy?

A: Made to order gowns, samples and lingerie sales are all final sale.

Q: Parking?

A: Downtown Guelph parking on the street is FREE for 2 hours (& on Sunday all day). There are also several parkades within walking distance. Please feel free to call us (519)822-0909 if you need any assistance. 

Q: Do you carry mother of the bride/groom, bridesmaids, prom or flower girls?

A: No, not at this time.

Q: What is a trunk show?

A: A trunk show is a limited period of time for brides to view additional styles from a particular designer outside of what The Modern Bride has previously curated in store. In some cases, you will be able to see the entire collection! Trunk shows are by appointment only and tend to book up quickly due to their limited time, so book quickly to avoid disappointment.

Q: When do you have a sample sale?

A: We have a sample sale twice a year, and it is a very exciting event! Although we will be sad to see our pristine samples go we are excited to be offer our brides some huge savings! Watch our Events page for the next sample sale date!
