3 Things Your Wedding Photographer Wants You To Know

It’s beginning to look a lot like engagement season!

It might be our favourite time of the year, well aside from all the new dress arrivals at NYC Bridal Market! Seeing you babes glowing in the bask of your new status as fiancée always makes our hearts aflutter!

We know the moments, day and months after THE question has been popped and the champagne has been poured can be a time of “Where do I even begin”! On the TMB Blog, we want to be your one-stop resource for all aspects of your big day! That is why we sat down (ok, fine we lied, we emailed her because well, COVID) with friend of TMB Kelsey Doherty from Cloud Nine Photography to learn her three things she wants all of her couples to know!

  1. Know your vision and share it!

Having a clear vision of what you want helps us do our job! Knowing what you're drawn to in terms of photography can allow us to capture something unique to you. For example, if you want to look like you're in a Vogue editorial we'll rent a studio! But, if you're more of a 'barefoot bride' getting you in a field at sunset is a MUST!

2. Tell us who you are as a couple!

It's SO important for your photographer to know about who you are as a couple. You don't have to get super deep about all the nitty gritty, but just tell us little things you do on the regular; 'Tuesday nights is wine & movie night' OR 'we always have coffee on Sunday mornings'. These little tidbits gives your photographer cues to connect with you as a couple so they feel comfortable and so we can make the most of our session. We’re trying to create portraits unique to them as a couple, so the more quirks and storylines you can share the more meaningful the photos will be!

3. Who/What are your top 5 moments(or people) on your day?

Believe it or not, every couple values different moments and/or people in their day so it's SO important to ask these questions: Who are the most important people and what are the most important moments?! Of course, we know the basics like the first kiss, or the bride walking down the aisle. Answering the questions above allows us photographers to focus a little more on a special relative or a friend who just flew halfway across the world, or a detail in time that is important to you like putting on an heirloom piece of jewellery while you’re getting ready. Oh and p.s. we won’t tell any one if you also slide us a list of no-go’s on specific shots.
