Real Brides: Trish & Liz!

We have a very special feature for today’s blog! As the month of June commemorates Pride Month for the LGBTQ+ Community, we wanted to celebrate here at TMB and showcase an amazing couple.

Because what’s better than a bride? Two brides! Trish and Liz both found their wedding dresses with us, and looked absolutely stunning on their big day. Working with both brides separately to find dresses that complimented each other without giving away any details was such a fun experience for our consultants and the brides! As we imagined, their wedding was full of an abundance of love, family, and unique personal touches to top it all off. Read on to hear about their experience!

How did your love story begin?

As so many modern love stories begin....online! On our first date we both showed up with backup plans at the ready and, instead, ended up talking for more than 6 hours until we closed down the restaurant.

What was the best part of wedding planning?

Getting to see all of our hard work pay off in a day surrounded by friends and family. Oh and obviously getting to taste a bunch of cake!

How would you describe your wedding style?

We wanted our day to feel comfortable, laid back, and like a true celebration. We focused on making sure the people who had supported us through our relationship got to share in our joy. There were lots of personal touches like using flowers from Liz's parents' garden and featuring some of our friend’s cider.

Favourite / most epic moment from the big day?

What started looking like a sunny day became a torrential rain storm and we all just rolled with the punches. We were lucky enough to say our vows quite literally surrounded by our friends and family  because we, and all 150 of our guests, had to gather under the gazebo to stay dry!

Any wisdom for future TMB brides?

Trust your bridal consultant and stay true to your gut instincts. At the end of the day, you're the one wearing the dress, so make sure you pick it for you. Forget anyone else's expectations! For example, it was crucial for Liz that she wear an ethically-made dress on our day. The Modern Bride team was able to select a number of dresses made by small makers all over the world and helped Liz find the perfect dress. In addition to that, though both of us knew that we wanted to wear dresses, we did not want to know what the other was wearing. The Modern Bride team helped ensure that we both found dresses we loved, and which complimented each other, all without giving anything away.

We will never take for granted the fact that we live in a country where we have the right to marry each other. In their speeches, our brothers spoke to the fact that we are in the lucky minority to be able to hold a celebration of our love surrounded by all of the most important people in our lives. The love and joy shared on that day is something we will remember for the rest of our lives. Also, having everyone around us in the gazebo meant that we got to hear each of Liz's grandparents hoot and holler when we were pronounced married which is pretty darn cool!
