Once you receive your gown ETA email from TMB we recommend contacting the seamstress you'd like to work with! This email will be sent approximately 2-4 weeks after you order your gown. If you have purchased a sample we recommend booking as soon as you have your dress in hand!
-
On average, you will have 2-4 alterations appointments. In some cases you may need additional ones to ensure a proper fit on your body!
-
Bring your shoes and any undergarments you plan to wear on your wedding day! Shoes ensure the hem and bustle are done properly according to your height and undergarments will help your seamstress fit your dress to you like a glove!
-
The cost will depend on your seamstress of choice, the work that needs to be done, the fabric of your dress and any special alterations that are required. Typically, we recommend budgeting $700-$1500. Every seamstress/company has an individual price list, so alterations can run $400-2500. Extensive alterations, customizations and rush fees would be an additional cost.

We recommend bringing 1-2 people max to your alterations appointments. This should include whoever will be either helping you into your dress and doing your bustle on the day of the wedding. Bring your supportive people so you can focus on how you want things to fit and feel and also absorb all the important details from your seamstress.
-
Nope! If you have someone else in mind feel free! The list above are people that we have spent time vetting and practicing with our own garments so we can confidently recommend. If you are searching elsewhere make sure you use a seamstress that does bridal alterations specifically, it is not like hemming pants.
-
Totally normal, and your seamstress expects it! Most alterations happen in stages. Your final fitting is scheduled closer to the wedding so your dress fits you, not a snapshot of you from six months ago. Just keep your seamstress in the loop if your weight shifts significantly so they can plan your fittings accordingly.
-
Aim to have your dress 100% finished — hem, bustle, and all — 2–3 weeks before the big day. That gives you breathing room for a final steam and any last-minute tweaks, without the stress of a fitting the week of.
-
A bustle is what lets you (or your MOH) pull up your train after the ceremony so you can dance the night away without tripping on it. It's typically a separate line item from your basic hem and take-in — ask your seamstress to quote it specifically so there are no surprises.
-
Yes! If your dress needs to travel with you (destination wedding, out-of-town venue, etc.), let your seamstress know upfront — you'll likely need everything finished 4–6 weeks out instead of 2–3, so it's ready to pack and go.
-
Yes please! Bring your veil, belt, jewelry, and anything else you plan to wear — it helps your seamstress get the full picture and make sure everything works together, not just the dress on its own.
-
Generally, anything booked within 12 weeks of your wedding date may be considered a rush by most seamstresses, and it usually comes with an added fee since it means bumping their schedule. If your timeline is tight, mention it upfront when you reach out — most seamstresses will tell you honestly whether they can accommodate you.
Have more questions we didn’t cover? Or if you have any concerns about the complexity of your alterations, we're happy to help review your options and connect you with the one we think will suit your needs best. Send us an email!
